The Six Steps
Each evening, move through six stations of prayerful reflection drawn from the Ignatian Examen.
Step 1
Quiet
"Take a moment to breathe, center yourself, quiet your spirit. Recognize that God is present with you."
Begin each evening by silencing the noise of the day in a brief, guided breathing meditation.
Step 2
Recall
"What small blessing did you receive today that you might have missed?"
Review your day with gratitude, noticing where God's goodness was at work.
Step 3
Attend
"Examine the emotions felt throughout the day and consider their meaning."
Name what you felt and why — bringing your inner life before God without judgment.
Step 4
Pray
"Offer up your struggles and ask for His peace."
Bring your needs and the day's significant moments to God in written or spoken prayer.
Step 5
Look
"What is one way you can love others better tomorrow?"
Ask God for wisdom and grace to take on the day ahead.
Step 6
Still
"Let the peace of Christ rule in your heart as you prepare for sleep."
Close your examen in a final moment of stillness, surrendering the day to God.
